Athletica: When Sports Become More Important Than God! 🏒🙏

Do you believe in miracles? Well, Brother Jim and David are back for another lively Thursday edition of Bible, Bibs and a Prayer, and this time they’re hitting the ice, cracking jokes, reminiscing about the good old days, and tackling a subject that might step on a few toes!

From the legendary 1980 “Miracle on Ice” to hockey fights, Gen X memories, and David’s career as a before-picture fitness model, the guys bring plenty of laughs to the table. But beneath the humor lies an important conversation about something much bigger than sports.

Picking up where Tuesday’s episode left off, Brother Jim and David continue exploring the idea of “Athletica”—the growing devotion to youth sports that can sometimes take priority over faith, family, and time with God. When children spend countless hours practicing, competing, traveling, and chasing the next big opportunity, are we teaching them the same dedication to following Jesus?

Brother Jim challenges parents and grandparents to consider what their children are learning by watching them. Kids quickly discover what matters most to their families—not just through what we say, but through how we spend our time, where we invest our money, and what gets us excited. If we can teach our children the names of every sports star, the rules of the game, and the history of our favorite teams, shouldn’t we also be teaching them about the heroes of the Bible and the love of Jesus Christ?

This isn’t about giving up sports! Athletics can teach teamwork, discipline, commitment, and perseverance. The real question is whether we’ve found a healthy balance—or whether Jesus is getting whatever time and attention we have left over.

Join the guys for an honest, humorous, and challenging discussion about parenting, discipleship, commitment, and the importance of living out our faith at home. Because following Jesus isn’t just about showing up at church; it’s about making Him part of our everyday lives.

Have you ever prayed about a burden, surrendered it to God, and then found yourself worrying about it all over again? In this powerful sermon, “Fighting Battles That Are Already Won,” we are reminded that we were never meant to carry every burden, control every outcome, or fight every battle in our own strength.

Drawing from 2 Chronicles 20 and the story of King Jehoshaphat, this message explores the powerful truth found in God’s Word: “The battle is not yours, but God’s.” Through Scripture, we discover how to face fear, trust God’s timing, release the need for control, and find peace even when our circumstances haven’t changed.

This message reminds us that faith doesn’t mean we will never face hardship. It means we can trust God in the middle of it. Because of the victory Jesus Christ secured through His death and resurrection, we can face life’s battles with hope, knowing that trouble does not have the final word.

Discover practical ways to surrender your worries to God, distinguish your responsibilities from the things you cannot control, turn anxiety into prayer, and anchor your mind in the promises of Scripture.

You don’t have to know how God will work everything out to trust that He is still in control. Whatever battle you’re facing today, remember that you are not alone, His grace is sufficient, and your ultimate victory is secure in Christ.

Join us for this encouraging message, and be reminded that sometimes the greatest act of faith is to stop striving, trust the Lord, and let Him lead the way.

“Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
